Winter is once again in full force. This winter season has seen record setting low temperatures as well as a massive amount of property damage nationwide. Snow and ice are great for winter sports enthusiasts, but not so great for your property. Cold weather can cause a massive amount of property damage in mere minutes.
Pipes can freeze over for example. Freezing pipes of course expand, and this can cause your pipes seals to break or the pipe itself to rupture. Once a pipe ruptures it only takes mere minutes to flood your property and cause a massive amount of water damage. Pipe damage can occur inside of walls away from sight. If your pipes only get a small hairline crack this can result in a slow drip which over time can rot out significant portions of your walls, ceilings and or floors depending on where the affected pipe resides with in your home. As winter progresses onwards with its cycles of freezing and thawing this cycle of damage repeats itself with the cracks only getting bigger and bigger with each cycle. The exposure to extreme weather demands that you take special care of your roof. One area of the roof that can sustain considerable damage is the internal frame. Discolored spots on your singles could point to internal moisture buildup so if you or your contractor notice these, they should be removed, the area inspected thoroughly and the damaged singles replaced right away.
